Mira and Mexico

Getting ready to head off to Mexico for my birthday! What’s better than getting the hell out of wet, cold Seattle for the week? How about combining it with an intensive study with one of my all time favorite dancers and costume designers– Mira Betz! I took some sessions with her at Kosmos a few years ago and I have been trying to get back to studying with her ever since. I was finally able to save up enough $$$. And as an EXTRA bonus the intensive is in Mexico. I’m looking forward to some warm days and some hard work (that doesn’t involve a computer). Here’s some youtube love:

I can’t stop watching this video of Elena Lentini and Scott Wilson and his band from 1981. I LOVE IT. I even dreamt about it last night! I really, really hope I have a chance to study with her in NY.

Autumn is bringing it…

OUR SHOW WAS A SUCCESS! First of all, thanks to everyone who came out to Une Soirée de Danse on Wednesday. I think it was one of the best times I’ve had performing! A great group of performers. And the audience was so full of energy. Also, thanks to everyone who helped make it this show possible. You can find some video clips on Bahar’s Facebook page.

FALL CLASSES start next week, another thank you to everyone for helping me fill up the class! I’m excited to start teaching again after taking the summer off.

I’M GOING TO BE A BACKUP DANCER for Nalini & The Blue Lotus Dance Co. on Thursday. I’m pretty excited to be able to do this. I’ve always wanted to be a backup dancer and I love how it looks when a bunch of people are doing the same movements. I have less than a week to learn the choreography, which is something I’m not used to doing. It will be a fun lil’ challenge.

TURKISH TIME Ruby is coming to Seattle October 16 to teach a Turkish Bellydance workshop at Visionary Dance. Ruby is an awesome teacher and I loved her last workshop I took in Tacoma. I’m really looking forward to this one.

GOING TO MEXICO… with all the show planning madness I haven’t really had time to think about my upcoming trip to Mexico to study with the amazing Mira Betz. It just hit me this week! Wow! I am beyond excited! She is one of my favorite dancers, performers, costumers. I had a chance to take a couple of classes with her in CA and since then I’ve been craving more lessons with her but just haven’t been able to swing it. Did I mention that I’m super excited!

Une Soirée de Danse • September 22

Preparations for our next show are in full swing. Just a week and a half away. I’m trying not to bite my nails.

This is going to be a fun one. We have Dirty Bird Cabaret coming down from Bellingham and 3 Seattle guest artists too! We originally thought the show date would be closer to Halloween, so we have some crazy acts in this one. It does land on the Autumn Equinox so it will be a good way to kick off the Fall season. This will be our last big show of the year, our next one will probably be in Spring, so be sure to come check out what we’ve been working on. We have all new pieces for ya.

U-District Class Starts this Wednesday

Don’t forget to pre-register for this class by Monday. There is a minimum of 5 students required to hold this class, otherwise it will be canceled. This session is a good opportunity to try bellydance if you’ve always wanted to give it a shot because it’s only 4 weeks long and it’s really affordable. Plus, most of the money goes to helping support the UW Women’s Center.

Just got this Cheeky Girls Productions‘ DVD and I LOVE IT! Ruby‘s instruction is clear and comprehensive. And it’s also a great way to develop strength.

Spring Bellydance Classes

Classes at the Ballard Health Center & Spa are going really well! A fantastic group of students and a lovely space to practice in. It’s going so well I’ve decided to offer a Spring session.

Students in this Spring’s Beg/Int Class can also choose to participate in a group performance at the end of the 8-week session. They will perform the choreography they learn in class during Bahar‘s Bellydance Showcase and Fundraiser on April 25 at Rendezvous’ Jewel Box Theater.

Be sure to register in advance to save your space in class. Plus, you’ll save some $$$ if you register before February 11.
