Preparations for our next show are in full swing. Just a week and a half away. I’m trying not to bite my nails.

This is going to be a fun one. We have Dirty Bird Cabaret coming down from Bellingham and 3 Seattle guest artists too! We originally thought the show date would be closer to Halloween, so we have some crazy acts in this one. It does land on the Autumn Equinox so it will be a good way to kick off the Fall season. This will be our last big show of the year, our next one will probably be in Spring, so be sure to come check out what we’ve been working on. We have all new pieces for ya.

Spring Bellydance Classes

Classes at the Ballard Health Center & Spa are going really well! A fantastic group of students and a lovely space to practice in. It’s going so well I’ve decided to offer a Spring session.

Students in this Spring’s Beg/Int Class can also choose to participate in a group performance at the end of the 8-week session. They will perform the choreography they learn in class during Bahar‘s Bellydance Showcase and Fundraiser on April 25 at Rendezvous’ Jewel Box Theater.

Be sure to register in advance to save your space in class. Plus, you’ll save some $$$ if you register before February 11.

Bahar performs this weekend at Medfest

Medfest is a beautiful, mostly-bellydance, weekend festival held in West Seattle. Bahar, my student troupe, will be performing at 7:30pm on the indoor stage. Come check them out, they have been working hard preparing for this event.

Location: Hiawatha Community Center, 2700 California Ave. SW, Seattle, WA
When: Festival is 10am to 9pm Saturday and Sunday (July 18 & 19), Bahar is on Saturday at 7:30pm on the indoor stage
Cost: Free/Donation

Thanks to everyone who came out to the Dances Under the Crescent Moon show. It was a challenging year for me with the tendonitis in my feet, then the car wreck, and then the sprained LCL. Dances Under the Crescent Moon – A Dance Recital/Showcase

Title: Dances Under the Crescent Moon
Location: Youngstown Cultural Arts Center, Seattle
Description: Helene Eriksen’s Traditional Dance Theatre is a year-long intensive dance training project. This year, nine dancers have worked diligently in learning the dances and creating the costumes for choreographies from a diverse cross-section of traditions: Berber dances of Tunisia, the urban dance Baladi from Egypt, Dabke from Lebanon, Dances of the Turkish Roma, a dreamy canopy dance from Azerbaijan, the rice harvest dance of the northern Iranian province of Gilan and the dance of the Kabeliya tribe of snake charmers from Rajasthan. I will be dancing in Baladi, Dabke, Turkish Roman, and Azeri. Helene will also be performing various solo dances.
